Why buy Pre-owned is a question we are often asked. Well, You are able to purchase items that are more unusual and you will be less likely to see someone else wearing the same item. Second hand jewellery can often cost less than the same item would new.
One reason for the price difference is that the VAT rules for secondhand items means that some items have little or no VAT imposed upon them.
Quality is a key point to remember when purchasing second hand items
If you are purchasing a secondhand item from ourselves you can rest assured that the article has been thoroughly examined to ensure that all links, clasps and settings are not broken or badly worn; gemstones will have been examined by one of our gemmologists to determine that they are of natural origin.
As with all jewellery purchases, whether new or pre-owned, the most important part of the purchase decision should be that you (or the recipient) would be thrilled to be wearing the article.
In order for you to ask about buying pre-owned items it stands to reason that we also need to purchase them for our stock. We do this either by purchasing from customers bringing in items to us, or by going to auctions to source items or by contacting some trade members who deal with pre-owned items as well as new.
For our pre-owned stock we generally try to look for Edwardian and Victorian items as we find those to be the type that most of our customers look for. We find that more modern items do not get looked at so readily
We are always happy to check on items that you may be thinking of selling. If we feel it is something suitable for our stock we will make you an offer and if we feel the item is in good enough condition for sale but not suitable for us then we will make suggestions as to where else you can try.
